Midweek Gallop Report
After the excitement on the racetrack of the last few days (a winner, a runner-up and a fine run in 5th), it'll be next week before there are any more runners from the yard. Lots entered but a run for most is dependent upon softer ground than at present.
So, here's a report from our Wednesday work morning.
Lot 1
Five of our young bumper horses did a steady couple of canters.
Nights In Venice had
run on Saturday at Kelso (runner up), while 'Carter'
did a pleasing race gallop at Carlisle early on Tuesday morning with
Callum Bewley.
Lot 2
After a steady first gallop, 4 horses paired up to come up a bit faster
second time.
Bonny Houxty & Shoeshine Boy lead Maid Of Houxty, Ellistrin Star and Both Barrels
Lot 3
Just a gentle half canter from this quartet.
'Emily' (Callum) tracked by Stolen Money (Connor)
Lot 4
Couple of medium paced gallops for the three
So Many Roads (Callum)
Lot 5
And to round off the morning, a couple of handicap hurdlers
Jimmy's Jet sells on Friday at Tattersalls Ireland NH Cheltenham sale
After Jimmy's Jet had stormed to victory on his bumper debut at Ayr on
October 28th, it was suggested to co-owner Rob Bewley that the Jet Away
gelding would be suited by somewhere "tight and right-handed".
Safe to say it wasn't the Tattersalls
Ireland Sales Ring that was in mind......
But seriously, former Northern trainer Rob Bewley has been a successful
equine businessman in the last decade and has an uncanny knack of
spotting latent ability in unbroken National Hunt young stock in the
sales ring, then passing on after showing ability in Points or Under
Rules.
The manner of Jimmy's Jet's performance in winning that Ayr bumper was
quite breath-taking as he showed he possesses several gears, yet still
won the race with ease.
Of course, the gelding is very much one that we'd have enjoyed having
here at Dodlands and overseen further progression and undoubted success on the racecourse.
But, as Chuck Whillans would
often say "business is business".
We wish Rob & Jimmy the best at the Tattersalls NH Sale post racing at
Cheltenham on Friday (commencing 4.30pm). Viewable on Social Media of
course.
You can read more about Jimmy's Jet on this website here.
And you can view his catalogue page here. Jimmy's Jet is Lot #13.
Oh, and if you're the buyer.......we'd be delighted to train him!!!

Godolphin Stable Staff Newcomer Award nominee
It is with great pleasure to relate that our young stable groom Laura Arnott has been nominated for the 2022 Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Newcomer Award.
With judging and the ceremony for the Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff
Awards having taken place virtually in 2021 due to the pandemic, 2022 sees a return to the traditional format,
with judging day for the finalists on Tuesday 21 February 2022 before a London ceremony, at a venue to be announced.
Nominations closed on Tuesday 9 November 2021.
More details, including the David Nicholson Newcomer award can be found
by visiting the Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards
website at
www.studandstablestaffawards.co.uk.
Her first job upon leaving Hawick High School, Laura is now in her second season as a full-time member of the Dodlands Steading Team and she has only just turned 18.
It almost goes without saying that she is a hard working young lady who
is very good at general stable duties. But it is her riding ability that
has improved immensely in the last couple of years and Laura is a
extremely valuable and skilled rider. Indeed Laura is used to great
effect by Assistant Trainer Callum on the Wednesday & Saturday work morning
rotas.
Laura's nomination was suggested to us by Scottish Racing Academy's
Tutor & Assessor Emma Sayer and of course we were only too willing to
endorse.
Conscientious and mature beyond her years, we wish Laura well in the
competition - but just to be nominated is a great accolade of which she
should rightly be proud.
You know, we feel like having won a prize ourselves in just having Laura as a
daily member of the team here at Dodlands with her smile and nature brightening up
each and every
day.
