From the gallops
A classic autumnal morning, with the gallops shrouded in mist first lot, with the second lot enjoying bright sunshine.
Six horses in each of two lots
Lot 1
Shades of Midnight (Callum)
- normal work consists of 2 spins on the 'Up the Middle' gallop, working
3 times on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Goodnight Percy (Garry)
- also worked 3 times
Paper Roses - coming to hand,
working 3 times too
Tomahawk Wood - worked 3
times for the first time this autumn, coming along nicely
This quartet were joined is the first 2 of these pieces of work by Baby Ticker (Aiden) and 'Katie' (Kingy).

Lot 2
A couple who have just started cantering in the last week after a summer
break, came up just the once.
'Arthur'
(Kingy)
Keyboard Gangster
(Pinky)
Both have now settled into their work after being quite fresh during the
first couple of days.
'Cliff' can be a bit lazy on the gallops, and proved quite hard work for Callum during his 2 spins.
The remainder were coming up three times for the first time this
season, with the work riders all providing good reports of the third
piece of work.
Snapping Turtle
Bollin Julie (Garry)
Hartforth (Aiden)
Snapping Turtle (left) and 'Arthur' lead Dodlands' companions Hartforth (partly hidden), Keyboard Gangster, Bollin Julie and 'Cliff'
Which left a couple to go out together to do some road work in the nearby lanes. 'Zidane' (pictured below with Garrry) and 'Spud', both unraced geldings, were partnered by Garry and Pinky respectively. This left Callum free to jump in the van and head to Hexham to pick up a couple of 3yr old fillies from Tim Reed.
And finally....
Last week we made reference to this season's latest new weekend work
rider Aidan Redpath.
Aidan comes from that conveyor belt of local talent that has produced
champion jockeys such as Jason Hart (Flat apprentice 2013) and Craig
Nichol (Jumps conditional 2015-16), in starting their career in racing
by riding out at Dodlands Steading.
It was stated that Aidan weighed 5st. This is incorrect, and the
web-site offers sincere apologies for any embarrassment caused.
Of course, details such as these should really be confirmed by more than
one source, and the opportunity is taken here to retract the statement
contained in the New Item of 2nd October.
Aidan Redpath's correct weight is 4st 12lb.
Aidan is pictured below on the right on Hartforth (having jocked off 'Kingy' who seems to be looking on with green eyes between Pinky and Garry)
