11th February news

Saturday gallops

A bitterly cold day - icy wind, driving sleet - but the stable has a fair number of runners planned for the next seven days so with an extra layer, and a shrug of the shoulders, the team cracked on with stable work and gallop exercise.
Even TSMGW were conspicuous by their absence, and we'll forgive our web team photographer/reporter for using recent images rather than from this morning.

First lot consisted of Side of the Road (Kingy), Hartforth (Sarah) and Dali Mail (Garry), who each came up twice. The last named pair are in line for a run this coming week and went well. Dali Mail seemed to appreciate the rain softened woodchip surface. Side of the Road is targeting a mares' bumper at Wetherby in 10 days time, whilst the other two will run on Wednesday and Thursday as we advised earlier this week. Also in the first lot of the morning, coming up just the once, was Keyboard Gangster (Callum).

Second lot of the day saw Shades of Midnight (Kingy), Night Comes In (Callum) and Baby Ticker (Garry) do two spins on the Up-the-Middle gallops, while Tomahawk Wood (Sarah) came up once. Shady will run at Haydock next Saturday, Baby Ticker at Kelso on Thursday, and Night Comes In at Ayr, Tuesday. A bit longer term, Tomahawk Wood may be entered for a handicap hurdle at Wetherby in 10 days time.

Our two intended at Sedgefield tomorrow - Bollin Julie (Kingy) and Snapping Turtle (Sarah) - worked together in light work, whilst Garry and Callum continued initial road work on a couple of youngsters ('Brooke' and Eternally Yours).

And last but not least, Big Bad Dream (Garry) and Paper Roses (Kingy) exercised together on the gallops. Paper Roses is entered at Kelso on Thursday.

Duo run at Sedgefield tomorrow

As long as Sedgefield passes a 7.30 inspection (waterlogged track), Bollin Julie and Snapping Turtle will run in their respective handicap hurdles.

Both horses are experienced handicappers, and are doing well at home. Snapping Turtle can usually be relied upon to run his race, and if he gets an easy lead, he could outstay the opposition in the 3m 3f race which concludes the card.
Bollin Julie is gradually getting fitter this season, and faces 4 opponents in the preceding mares handicap over 2m 4f.

Good luck to the lads of Denholm Park Racing.
