A fine win for Shadow Boxer at Ayr today

It may have been a year in the waiting, but our gallant grey Shadow Boxer followed up his debut win at Newcastle with a fine performance at Ayr today, winning the closing 3m 1f handicap chase. Prominent throughout, jumping and travelling well until setting off for home around the bottom bend, Callum drove Shadow Boxer out making no mistake.
This was a big improvement on his form last year, but he's been holding on to his condition well and looks a stronger horse all round.
Clearly well suited by a staying trip and plenty of give in the ground, we'll see what the handicapper makes of this, but galloping tracks the likes of here and Newcastle will be on the agenda for him either way.

Running an almost equally fine race was Bollin Fiona, who finished third in the 3m handicap hurdle, beaten around 3 lengths. Fiona is another of the string suited by heavy, which allows her to travel and jump well. Competitive off her current mark (98), she should go well again especially if dropped back to Class 5 handicaps.

And it was also a successful day for 'Dodlandswise'. Our race preview advising an e.w. double on our pair which returned place odds of 5½ - 1 (16s & 11-4) - a bit more if you took 'early price guaranteed best odds'.............

Tomorrow's runners at Ayr

Can we make it 2 winners in 2 days at Ayr?

Well, Leith Walk is going ever so well at home, and is fancied in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle.

Earlier, we're in the unusual position (for us) of having 2 runners in the same race. Mia Matriarch and King Kalium are our entries in the 0-100 handicap hurdle also over 2m 4f.

This race is quite unusual in that all 8 runners emanate from a Scottish stable. Scobie Jardine's recent dual scorer Rowan Road will be hard to beat, but if he shows the form of a couple of runs ago, King Kalium may give him most to do from our pair.
