We head off to Newcastle tomorrow with a couple of runners
And first up for us on Newcastle on Thursday is
Lucarno Dancer, Raymond
Shiels' mare who is making her stable debut. She runs in the 0-100
handicap hurdle at 2.20.
She was trained by Raymond himself to win a handicap hurdle at Hexham
about 18 months ago, and had a couple of runs this season already during
the late spring.
It can be tricky to gauge the opposition based on pure form, as most will be capable of winning if running to their best. Ones to catch the eye are Point winner Tigerally on handicap debut for the Skeltons (could be thrown in), Irish raider Emilyogue (dropped 5lb after finishing 3rd at Hexham last month) and Sam England's Choochoobugaloo was well backed at Ayr last time when not beaten far.
Lucarno Dancer will be suited by the soft and will come on for the race, ridden by regular jockey Callum Bewley
Onto the last race on the card for
The Boo Box who makes his
second appearance in the bumper, which looks a competitive affair.
Several runners have shown fair form, at the very least, headed by last
month's Ayr bumper winner Bally Conor who beat a couple of Gordon
Elliott horses (no mean feat!). Rebecca's All Hail Caesar and Gillian
Boanas' Just Call Me Al have been placed in races showing plenty of
promise.
Olly Murphy saddles debutant Ben Calvados, a half brother to 3 winners including Saint Calvados, while Rose Dobbin can introduce nice types in such races and Trooper Turnbull is the mount of Craig Nichol. Kinneston Nick is another Northern trainer who runs a debutant in this bumper though on breeding My Son John looks the type to improve with time and jumping.
All of which leaves us looking for The Boo Box to improve upon his debut
at Kelso in May when he was outpaced in the final 2 furlongs. He will be
better suited by the soft ground here, but faces quite a stiff task to
make the first 3. Nice gelding though.
Thursday's stable protagonists - Lucarno Dancer and The Boo Box
Paper Roses runner up at Hexham today
Just the 5 runners and Brian Hughes set a steady pace on the winner Derriana Spirit which Callum tracked on Paper Roses. The winner set off for home at the bottom of the hill and was 3 lengths clear jumping the last with Paper Roses not able to catch her, but she did finish a comfortable runner-up.
