Promising 4th on debut from Eternally Yours
It was on writing the preview to today's bumper at Musselburgh, that whilst not containing an obvious 'star of the future' the quality in depth of the runners was striking for a race at this track.
And it certainly proved so. McCain's Sonic (eventual second) set a
brisk tempo from the get-go, and it never really let up at any stage.
Indeed, the time for the race indicated that this was bumper run at a
genuine pace.
Callum didn't need to worry too much
about settling Eternally
Yours in rear, as she ran quite green on the inside behind the good
pace. Even off such a quick gallop, the winner (Mick Easterby's Town Head)
travelled smoothly in a prominent position, clearly appreciating the
sound surface. Meanwhile the 3rd place horse (Colby) and 4th (our filly)
raced in rear, but made progress weaving though a ruck of horses in the final 3
furlongs.
Both of these first timers finished with a fair rattle for the
minor placings, each catching the eye of media pundits.
The green-ness evident from the naked eye, was also apparent when
Eternally Yours was being unsaddled, with The Jockey blowing more than
the filly!
But seriously, a fine ride by Callum on a young filly making
her debut against a field of (mostly) geldings. She seemed to enjoy the
whole experience, and in about a week's time, all being well, we'll turn
our thoughts to where next.
