Ayr yesterday
Tomahawk Wood was out of sorts in his run in the 2m 5½f handicap hurdle at Ayr yesterday, and was well behind when pulled up 3 from home.
Accordini finished 6th on his
debut in the NH Flat race, and we felt he ran quite a promising race.
The pace was a dawdle early on (quickened up entering the back straight)
and our gelding took quite a keen hold. The leaders set sail for home 4f
out, and Accordini was briefly outpaced on what was quite a fast surface
(officially good going).
The Dr Massini gelding did keep on though right to the line albeit
about a dozen lengths off the clear winner.
Bumper debutant at Kelso tomorrow
Although it's our local course, we wouldn't see ourselves as sending out
a stream of winners over the years. However, season 2017-18 was an
exception in that we recorded 2 wins at Kelso, and it is that venue to
which we send The Boo Box
for his racecourse debut. The 5 year old Scorpion gelding has been at
Dodlands for a couple of years now and he's strengthened well during
that time, growing into his near 16.3hh frame.
It's a few years since we sent out a bumper winner first time, and in
general the progeny of his sire do progress well with time and
experience.
There are several horses with previous experience in the field, mostly
showing some promise if not suggesting that a bumper win is imminent.
Obvious exception is John Quinn's Akarita Lights who has been runner up
in a couple of bumpers showing a good level of form in each (RPR 102).
Enzo Barbieri's placed form in Irish Points wasn't enough to see him
attract a buying bid at the Tatts h-i-t sale in April, which leaves
Ewart's unraced Cellar Vie - a half brother to some good horses - in the
'interesting on debut' category.
The Boo Box is not slow, but given his frame would've been better suited to some give in the ground. Hope for a nice introduction and maybe sneak into the first half dozen.
