The family
Accordini is the second foal out of the Accordion mare
Haveyoubeen who was placed in a Towester hurdle for Jim Old before
running in points for Godfrey Maundrell.
Her victory came in what was quite an eventful race at Whitwick
Manor in February 2010. You can read the Racing Post analysis of
that Point win
here.
Accordini will be the first progeny of Haveyoubeen to race,
although the grand-dam Princess Tino has bred several horses the
best of whom was Kids Inheritance, a hurdle winner and 4-time chase
winner for Malcolm Jefferson.
A couple of others to run well without winning were Irish Point
winner Lemonfield and Jake the Jumper.
The third dam Lauregeen is best known as the dam of multiple
winning hurdler & chaser Toureen Prince, who Henrietta Knight
trained to win Fairyhouse's listed Jameson Gold Cup hurdle in 1989.
About the sire
Dr Massini (bay horse, born 1993) is widely attributed with the joint accolades of high-class and enigmatic.
He made 5 starts as a 3yr old and 4yr old when trained by Sir Michael Stoute at Newmarket, winning 3 times including the listed Magnolia Stakes at Kempton over 10f on his seasonal debut as a 4yr old.
Next start, and on subsequent runs for Aiden O’Brien, his wayward tendencies appeared when he refused to race, and was retired to stud in 1999.
He made his name as a NH Sire during his time at the Coolmore owned Beeches Stud in Eire, before being acquired by David Brace for his Dunraven Stud (in Wales) for the start of the 2010 covering season. And that was Dr Massini’s base until he passed away at the age of 24 in 2017.
He has a whole host of high class jumpers to his credit, the best of which have been Rocky Creek, Sound Investment, Doctor Phoenix and Massini’s Maguire.
After the sale of his own Bluefortytwo, who we trained to finish a runner up on his sole appearance in a bumper at Ayr in January (2018), owner Rob Bewley kindly sent along Accordini as a replacement.
Rob picked up this gelding as a 3 year old in 2015, and whilst it has been a wee while in the making, Accordini has slotted in well here at Dodlands in the morning gallops. Like Rob's Bluefortytwo, this gelding has also been educated and been in pre-training with Borders' based handler Gary Rutherford prior to joining our yard.
Accordini, is a strong, workmanlike gelding standing at 16.2hh, and we'd hope to give this gelding a run or two in the Spring of 2018, so look out for a racecourse appearance quite soon.
Update July 2018 - after a few run for experience, and showing a fair degree of promise, Accordini was sold on to continue his career in the English Point-to-Point sphere.
