6th May news

Off to the seaside..............

Seaside weather for the seaside course at Ayr tomorrow......well, maybe slightly cooler in the West.
A late (or early) season NH meeting for the racetrack, and we send over a couple of runners, book-ending the card.

Tomahawk Wood takes up his entry in the 20 runner 2m 5f handicap hurdle at 2.10pm.
If he runs up to his best he would have a chance, but he didn’t really threaten after 2 out at Newcastle last time and needs to bounce back here. This is a wide open event and we can't even begin to hazard an opinion as to the most likely contenders...........you're on your own lol!

So, 4 hours later, onto the last race which is a 2m NH Flat event. Looking at the horses with previous runs first.........

From his prominence in the better, more was expected from James Ewart’s Drenek on debut at Kelso in January when a well beaten 5th, and would need to show more to be involved here but the trainer has turned out several bumper winners in recent years........
Nicky’s Glingerflame finished 3rd in a bumper at Newcastle 6 months ago, in a race that has thrown up 3 subsequent winners. Should be there or thereabouts.
Given his fine pedigree Strathy has been a bit disappointing to date but his yard were under a cloud for much of last season (we know only too well how that feels!) so some improvement may be forthcoming.
The clear form pick, though is the Crawford Bros’ Lily’s Gem who is a Carlisle bumper winner from across the Irish Sea. Interesting to note that her stable racked up 18 British winners in the season just finished, yet were without a win in Ireland......

Which leaves several unraced horses. Each of Scobie’s Animore’s siblings have won bumpers, and the family is well suited to Kelso (one for ladies day at the end of the month?), while locally trained Zacharo and Jessiemac both have eye-catching pedigrees with every chance of going close.
Real Armani and Leather Belly look the type to improve with experience while Olly Murphy sends up Finawn Bawn, who’ll command a lot of respect.

We won 4 bumper races last season, but none with horses first time out. But we’ve been happy with Accordini’s initial work at home and no doubt he’ll improve for the outing in what looks a fair race for the time of year. With Rob’s son Callum Bewley riding Strathy, our own Callum takes the ride.

Good luck to all connections in what promises to be a day in the sun at Ayr.
