Wor Lass triumphs at Musselburgh on Ladies Day
Les about to pop the champagne with his family and winning rider Rachel Richardson
We've been a bit quiet in recent weeks with the jumps season drawing to a conclusion, and a couple of flat horses just getting going. Wor Lass ran quite well at Carlisle on her seasonal debut - between by a 'handicap certainty' - but has not always come to hand until later in the summer (no matter who trains her).
So when owner/breeder Les Dodds announced last Tuesday that he wanted
to step his mare up in class, down in distance........
The 10 year old mare had previously won 9 races, but none of these were
any higher than Class 5.
Well, that record was put to bed as, under an intelligent ride from
Rachel Richardson, Wor Lass was the convincing winner of the closing
Class 4 event over 1m 6f at Musselburgh's packed meeting yesterday.
Always close to the pace, travelling smoothly, the 10yr old mare took it
up 2f out and stayed on well in the final furlong to win by just over a
length.
Much to the delight of Les and his family who were all in attendance -
with daughter Michelle driving the horse box and leading the horse up as
always.
So, cue lots of messages from Hawick and celebrations well into the night. We're so pleased for you Les, well done.

Accordini runs in the bumper at Perth
Accordini ran a fairly promising race when 6th in a slowly run race at Ayr at the start of May. We'd like to think he'll be better suited by an even gallop, and the recent rain which swept across Central Scotland will have helped take any sting out of the ground.
Accordini will probably be one the outsiders, but as with most of our
bumpers we're hoping for a nice run round with a little improvement from
his last run.
Callum Bewley comes in for the ride for his dad Rob - best of luck to
all and enjoy the day.
