A trio of mares at Musselburgh tomorrow

Paper Roses makes her second appearance over hurdles in the 2m mares' novices' hurdle. Having unseated Callum at the last at Kelso last month, the obvious first priority would be to restore the mare's jumping confidence, by giving her a good sight of the hurdles and not get involved in a race too soon. That said, if she's still there with a chance 2 out, Callum will be going for the win.

There's not a lot of hurdling form to go on with her opponents. The Crawford Bros. send Verona Opera across the Irish Sea, and she is an experienced handicapper, showing progressive form in the last couple of months. Travelling an equally long distance is Appy Days, from Ian Williams' Worcester yard. Fourth on hurdles debut in a listed event at Taunton in December, she was previously runner up in a listed bumper earlier that same month.
These two have a 'ones to beat' look about them and will no doubt head the market.
Of the hurdling newcomers, McCain's Irish point winner Princess Monokoke makes some appeal, although she will surely want more of a test than 2 miles round Musselburgh on good ground

So, we have each way chances with Paper Roses.

Bollin Julie runs in the 3 mile handicap hurdle, a Class 4 0-105 race. This is a tricky race to analyse.
There are three horses who are trying 3 miles for the first time - Presenting Berkley, Lochalsh, Miss Barbossa - albeit at probably the easiest track in the country in terms of (lack of) emphasis on stamina.
Two horses with the least experience - Moscow Calling and Robins Legend - showed progressive form last time out with the addition of first time headgear.
Three of the remainder - Touch of Steel, Andhaar and our mare - have shown a good level of form that would entitle them to go very close.
Touch of Steel looks the obvious one, a winner last time out but he wasn't travelling very well for most of the race, so.....

For our part, we're looking for Bollin Julie to come on again for her last run over shorter at Newcastle where she was bang in there with every chance but weakened approaching 2 out.  An outside chance at a big price.

Robins Legend may prove the one to beat.

Finally, our lovely filly Side of the Road makes her debut in the last race of the day, the bumper. A well-bred mare with several current graded hurdlers and chasers close up in her pedigree, she has delighted us with her work, although she shapes like she wouldn't be fast enough to win a race such as this.
Callum takes the ride and will be looking to give the horse a nice introduction and be seeing the race out.

Of the opposition, this is a very competitive race. Most of the horses with previous experience have shown easily enough form to win this type of race, and there are a couple of newcomers with eye-catching pedigrees too.
