Newcastle review - nearly, very nearly....

Close, but no cigar, with a couple of second places at Newcastle yesterday from our two runners.

Mini the Minx went closest, failing by a neck to peg back Stormion (ridden by Craig Nichol) in the staying handicap hurdle. She still has the tendancy to run in snatches, and our hopes were high when Callum set sail for home approaching 3 out. She was 2-3 lengths clear at this stage but a slowish jump 2 out let the others back in. The mare did rally once over the last, and was closing in on the winner but the line came just too soon.

Urggh!

A mistake around the halfway stage stopped Sam Patch in his tracks in the 2m 4f handicap chase. He was settled in rear at the time, but Wilson let him make up the deficit gradually and he was matching strides with the well backed winner Dingo Bay 2 out. However, he couldn't quicken and had to settle for second place.

Going down
