Couple of entries tomorrow at Carlisle
The thaw in the weather has arrived just in time for the northern cards at Musselburgh and Carlisle tomorrow (Sunday), with both racecourses passing Saturday afternoon inspections initiated by frozen parts at their respective venues.
It's off down the road to Carlisle for us, with Yinfortheroad and Yo La Tengo our intended runners.
Yinfortheroad (Callum)
Yinfortheroad has a fair bit
to do to redeem himself on the racecourse following his lack-lustre
display at Kelso last Sunday. Blinkers may help, and we're hoping that
our gelding can show a bit more this time in the opening 2m 3½f
novice hurdle.
The Dapper Don's potentially high class gelding Corrin Wood looks only
to have to put in a clear round to collect, but there are a couple of
others in the race who have shown some potential, notable Swinbank's
bumper winner Big Water who is making his hurdling debut.
We've got around half a dozen un-raced horses this season who'll be
making their racing debuts in the next 4-5 months. The first of these
runs tomorrow in the concluding bumper at Carlisle. Yo La Tengo has been a
regular on our gallops since returning from his summer break, and will
benefit and progress from racing. We like him, but he's one for the
future and we wouldn't expect him to be the type to make too much of an
impression in National Hunt Flat races.
Of the race itself, those successful NH sires Oscar and Presenting are
well represented with 4 runners between them, though Nick Alexander's
ex-Irish and bumper-placed Standintheband sets a good standard. Oscar
Dallas, Cleve Cottage and Nicky the R's St Gregory may be the best of a
race full of unexposed sorts.
Footnote - Ross is fit and well
You may remember a week or so back, we told the tale of one of our
weekend work riders - Ross Gillan - and how he received an untimely kick
from one of the string.
Well, Ross was back in action last weekend, such as it was with the
gallops frozen. And he was in the full swing of things today as it was more like normal routine on the gallops.
Good to see you around the yard again.
