The family

Yinfortheroad is the second foal of the unraced mare Another Whiskey.
The first foal, Bishop's Walk (by Flemensfirth), has shown a high level of form in finishing second in a couple of Irish bumpers.
But the impressive reading of the family pedigree doesn't end there. The second dam, Whiskey, is a full sister to Spirit Leader, who was trained by Jessica Harrington to win the Tote Gold Trophy/County Hurdle double in 2003.
Whiskey is also a half sister to That's My Man (a dual listed hurdles winner in Ireland) and broodmare That's the Bonus, who is the dam of 6 winners including Crocodiles Rock and, 2011 bumper and hurdle winner for Jonjo, Ballyclough.

About the sire

The grey Cloudings was a lightly raced yet high class middle distance horse trained by Andre Fabre in France for Sheik Mohammed.
Cloudings was not seen again after running down the field in Benny The Dip's Derby (with our old friend Silver Patriarch in second). Previously the winner of the Prix Lupin, an 11f Group 1 event, at Longchamp on heavy ground.

Principally a jumps sire, but he has bred a few winners on the flat.
Sire of very useful chasers such as Cloudy Lane (The Dapper Don) and Three Mirrors (Ferdy).

Form Summary

Another purchase out of Robert Robinson's well-run Distillery Stud down at Annan.
In November 2010, Robert sent down a couple of store horses to the Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (principally a Horses In Training sale). Along with this fellow was a 4 yr old Bryan Boru filly who actually caught our eye, thinking that this Cloudings gelding would attract a fair amount of interest.
Well, sales can attract fickle traders, and to our surprise the filly was sold and the Cloudings gelding returned home without attracting a bid.
But we followed this gelding, and siblings, with interest and we ventured down to Annan with some local enthusiasts and agreed a deal which secured this gelding.
And we have been quietly pleased with his progress in working upsides on the Up the Middle woodchip gallop during the course of last season.

That Yinfortheroad's racecourse efforts don't match what he shows us in the mornings has been matter of some concern, but connections have been prepared to give the gelding some time to mature, and gain experience.

This season, he'll have an outing in a bumper before setting off down the hurdling route.

Current Season Form

16 Dec 12 Carlisle : 2m 3½f novices hurdle (Class 4) heavy. 10 ran. (C Whillans (5)) - p.u.

In leading group till outpaced 4 out, ridden but no impression 3 out, soon behind and tailed off when pulled up before 2 out.

Blinkered for the first time, Yinfortheroad ran with a bit more enthusiasm, but lost interest when being outpaced at the end of the back straight. We'll have to think where we go from here.

9 Dec 12 Kelso : 2m ½f novices hurdle (Class 4) soft. 13 ran. (C Whillans (5)) - 10th

Started slowly and always behind, jumped slowly, tailed off from halfway.

This wasn't very good as yet again he showed almost the complete opposite on the racecourse to his running and jumping at home.

25 October 12 Carlisle : 2m 1f NHF (Class 6) soft. 10 ran. (C Whillans (5)) - 7th

Prominent, ridden along 6f out, lost place but kept on withot troubling leaders.

Yinfortheroad has now had his quota of 4 races in bumpers, and benefitted from the experience. He is now ready to progress over hurdles, and we'll get him started on that route soon .

Chased leaders, soon driven along, outpaced 6f out, kept on final 3f.

He showed a bit of promise here, and has generally progressed for racing. Yinfortheroad is very much a stayer in the making, and he has given us encouragement for next season, in a modest way.
