Craig Nichol (when available)
Born February 1994,
NH Jockey
With Callum calling an end to his riding career - 76 wins with
the last being on our own Stainsby Girl at Newcastle in March 2020 -
it'll seem strange having neither Garry nor now Callum available for
the vast majority of rides for the stable.
In recent years, Callum has committed to the stable solely,
combining an Assistant Trainer role with riding our horses. However, a major milestone
was achieved in March '20 when Callum rode Baby Ticker to victory -
his 75th career win - and thereby losing his claim.
Dodlands Steading is a medium-sized yard with now regularly around
20 horses in training each season. Not quite enough to justify a
stable jockey though but we're quite fortunate that there are
several Scottish Border jockeys who either live or have roots
nearby. Our main go-to jockey for this season will be Craig Nichol.
Craig is
attached to a larger stable but will pop down to the yard once a week
or so to ride some work, assist
with schooling, etc.
Delighted to use when available.
Craig, of course, is one of around a dozen current jockeys who
started their racing life, as a teenager, honing their basic skills
as part-time work riders at Dodlands Steading. A champion
conditional in season 2015-16, Craig has ridden several times for
the yard over the last 3 or 4 seasons (8 wins) and overall has over
200 wins to his credit (and counting).
