Both Barrels lands the trifecta for the week

Following on from Pallas Lord's excellent week - two wins on the AW at Newcastle - Both Barrels made it a treble for the stable this week when landing the extended 2½ mile handicap hurdle at Ayr yesterday. You know, he still ran a bit green (made all) with his eyes averted to the stable block turning away from the stands as the field headed out on the last circuit.

But Craig soon sorted him out and by the end of the back straight, the pair made their move to up the pace. This had the desired effect as a couple of horses who were travelling smoothly found themselves gasping for breath as they sought to keep up.
Both Barrels was a couple of lengths clear jumping 3 out and, although not fluent at either the 3rd or 2nd last, he maintained that advantage to the run in.

In the next race on the card, Nights In Venice may have been a bit unlucky when hampered by a faller 2 out, losing momentum at a vital stage. He was in 2nd place at the time but couldn't make any impression on the winner and was caught close home for the runner up berth.

Back to Ayr today with Wor Lad

Ayr 8th March : 1.42 pm 2m 4½f Novices Hurdle (Class 4)

Just the 5 runners but we're under no illusion that Wor Lad is very much the outsider of the bunch.
Realistically, this presents another opportunity for Wor Lad to gain racing experience and get another run under his belt to qualify for a handicap mark.

Craig Nichol is once more in the saddle and all the best to Craig and connections.
