19th March news

Couple of runners at Carlisle, Sunday

Well, the yard had just about as good a day as any this season at Newcastle on Saturday with a win for Maid Of Houxty and an oh-so-close second place for Enemy At The Gate. There will be a full weekend review on Monday morning, so keep those eyes peeled.
Meantime, Carlisle stage a 7-race card on Sunday, with the opening race at 1.50pm. Advance going is soft.

Bollin Matilda makes a relatively quick return to the racecourse after her hurdling debut just under 3 weeks ago. Although she didn't look like winning on that occasion, we were fairly encouraged by her showing. She does look like better ground may suit her more (than today's forecast) but her dam (Bollin Julie) thrived on deep ground so ......
Henry and Craig seemingly have better offers, so Danny McMenamin steps in for the ride. Thanks Danny.

Lucinda's Monochromix has shown steady improvement in his 3 races this season (bumper & 2 hurdles) and should be there in the shake up from 2 out, while Ewan's Kingston Hill has shown a consistently good level of form and his hurdling debut 3rd to Dare to Dream was franked when that winner won again yesterday. McCain's Haveanothergoflo is another who has scope for improvement and Dianne Sayer's Irish import Wearelongterm is an interesting runner having realised €195k as a store.

This, the 2m 3½f maiden hurdle at 2.25pm with 9 runners due to go to post, is wide-open.

Good luck to Danny and owner-breeder Callum Whillans.

Next race on the card is the Class 5 novices handicap hurdle over the same trip.....that's 2m 3½f for those who've not been paying attention. 8 runners.

Eden Mill ran his best race over hurdles when runner up last time over 2 miles at Ayr but the form of that race hasn't really worked out. Still, he's been dropped a couple of pounds by the handicapper, and this step back up in trip should suit so we'll see. Craig Nichol again takes the ride.

Tom Lacey's Imperial Alex will take all the beating based on his win at Warwick a few weeks ago (runner up has won since). A 5lb rise may not be enough to stop him winning again.
Kinneston Nick's Blazing Port has been fairly consistent and along with Eden Mill may give Imperial Ace most to do.
