Day 3 of the Perth Festival
Couple of runners from the yard to round off the official 2022-23 jumps season but as long as the ground rides soft we do intend to have 2 or 3 runners during May. So keep your eyes peeled for entries at Hexham, Perth and maybe even Kelso.
The 2m 4f novices handicap hurdle at the tail end of Perth's Friday card has been split into 2 divisions. This has allowed both our entries to have a run, Cowboy Cooper in the 4.25 and Eden Mill in the 5.00pm.
Craig had been due to ride Cowboy Cooper
but was stood down after an unseat on Wednesday, and a replacement has not yet been finalised.
This is the gelding's second attempt at 2m 4f having finished 4th last
time on handicap debut. Dropped 3lb, not fully exposed but this is a
competitive affair.
Chumlee was well supported when winning at Newcastle last month in a
manner that suggested this lightly raced type has more to come. Tom
George has a good record at the track and his What A Steal with Brian
Hughes could go close in a first time tongue tie.
And Div II doesn't look any easier..............
Eden Mill is steadily improving
but so are most of his opponents and trying to gauge just who is
progressing faster is......well, not easy.
Rose's Irish Point-placed Pat's Dream falls into the potential improver
category - upped in trip, first outing in handicap - while Haribo
Collonges should appreciate the drop back to 2m 4f after running over 3
miles last time and appearing not to stay.
If you can't get Craig, and Hughes is not available then you'd put up
Sean Bowen wouldn't you?
But seriously, good luck to Sean and the TD9 Racing Partnership.
Eden Mill on the right leads Cowboy Cooper
Another second place ......
A bit surprisingly, Shoeshine
Boy started favourite for the 3m 2f Class 3 handicap hurdle at Perth
yesterday.....but not as surprising as the return to form of the winner
Burbank whose last 4 form figures read PPPP.
Indeed, Charlotte Jones
soon had her mount in a clear lead and was able to give him a breather on the home
turn for the final time. Well ridden.
Try as he might, Shoeshine Boy couldn't quite get on terms. He closed to a length between the last two but was all out to get there and a mistake at the last sealed his fate. Our gelding went down by just over 4 lengths
So. another 2nd place for the yard......
Last 10 outings from the stable.......3242123062.....
Bollin Matilda was caught
for toe in the opening mares novice hurdle and could never really land a blow.
She'd been running over 2½ miles previously and the extra pace over 2 miles put her
jumping under pressure. She finished in 6th beaten just over 30
lengths.
She'll be far more suited by middle distances in handicaps next season.
