Bonny Houxty at Newcastle Tuesday
It's been over 10 weeks since her last appearance when pulled up at
Hexham, a longer gap than ideal but
Bonny Houxty was one of
several in the yard who suffered from a runny nose in the interim. This
seems to have been a malaise experienced by several yards in the north
which doesn't make it any easier to accept but does go some way to
explain why it's happening.
Still, there have been several of our 'invalids' who've put in excellent
performances on the racecourse since and 'Bonny' has seemed well at home
so we hope she can put in a good show.
The mare runs in the 12.55 Newcastle (going is good), a Class 5 handicap
hurdle over 2m 6f.
Young Theo Gilliard has ridden several times for the yard over the last
couple of seasons, not least when winning on Stolen Money at Haydock
just before New Year. So it was great to see the Conditional Jockey ride
a treble for his boss (Donald McCain) at Uttoxeter on Saturday and pass
the 40 winner mark which sees his claim reduce to 3lb.
As this is a Conditional Jockeys handicap in which he rides Bonny Houxty,
he wouldn't be claiming anyway so we can truthfully offer our
congratulations!
There is a slight concern with Bonny Houxty's last run as she went well for a long way before weakening quickly but this Newcastle race will tell us more.
17 runners and there are a couple who stand out on recent form - Don Brocco and Goodtimes Badtimes should be to the fore at the finish. Two others to keep an eye on are Wotsmyname and Famous Moment, at a big price.
Good luck to Bill & Carol Aitchison.
