Racing Review from Ayr on Sunday (19th Jan)
Dali Mail started favourite in his 2 mile novice chase when attempting to follow up on the Newcastle success last month.
Still travelling well enough 4 out, he was disputing the lead with
horses four abreast, when he got in a bit tight and crumpled on landing.
Both horse and jockey were up quickly - unscathed - and Callum managed
to grab hold of our gelding so he's barely had a race.
We'll see how Dali Mail is over the next week or so but all being well
it may not be too long before he gets a chance to make amends.
Racing Review from Newcastle on Monday (20th Jan)
Onto Newcastle the next day......not much luck there either.
We stepped Stainsby Girl up to 2½ miles
for the first time but wish we hadn't!
She had settled a bit better last time at Hexham over 2m 1f, but the
early pace here was steady and our mare pulled very hard for nearly 2
miles. Effectively this put paid to any chance she had but it was quite
encouraging that she was still there 2 out before weakening into 3rd
approaching the last.
A fair bit into the season now and she has an official rating of OR117,
so the mare may be hard to place to have a winning chance.
Just wish she
would settle as she has a lot of talent.
Paper Roses probably ran a
bit better than the bare result of her 6th place in the 2 mile handicap
hurdle beaten 17 lengths. After finishing slightly lame at Kelso last
time, Callum reported that she kept on to the line and finished sound.
Just could do with some help from the handicapper.....
In a similar fashion, if all is well it may not be too long before we see
this lovely mare on the racecourse again.
