Dali Mail at Kelso Saturday
Stainsby Girl ran a fine 2nd on her handicap debut at Doncaster on Friday and look out for a full review of that race and Saturday racing in our Sunday news item.
But pressing on swiftly, our novice chaser
Dali Mail heads the weights in
the Cyril Alexander Memorial Chase at Kelso on Saturday. This is a
limited novice handicap over 2m 1f and change. 8 runners for a
competitive heat.
Dali Mail has been itching for a run for a few weeks now, but
circumstances have often worked against him so this is his first
appearance since falling 4 out at Ayr in January.
It can sometimes appear a bit arrogant when we preview races in which our horses run and name 3 or 4 challengers and lightly view the rest. Nothing could be further from the truth as we have high regard for our fellow trainers, it's just that horses are not machines and can be at different stages of development, a bit off-form or too high in the handicap for the race in question. So, in our opinion, we pick one or two of the main challengers.
That said, this Kelso handicap chase is shaping up to be a cracking
contest. And a good spread of Scottish trained horses too - Lucinda,
Ewart, Rose and Stuart Coltherd will fancy their entries to be
competitive while the Easterby/Hughes combo (with Albert's Back) and Ben
Haslam (Protek des Flos) add a touch of class to proceedings.
Paul Nicholl's Scottish raiders have an enviable record and he send up
Moabit with Sam T-D booked to ride.
Phew!
We hope our lad can put his jumping blemish of last time behind him
and be there to fight out the finish.
Callum is in the saddle, and best of luck to Nicola Mackin and her
friends in The Zidane Partnership.
Can hardly wait!
