Mid week gallop news
School holidays in Hawick!
And many thanks to the girls for popping down a couple of mornings to
help Callum, Georgina & Co. with morning exercise.
A tale of two days - Tuesday, wet and windy with Wednesday, bright, calm, sunny
and Ian & Wee Davie present on the hill to oversee a lot or two.
All of the string are on the gallops, so on Tuesday 17 of the
Dodlands Steading inmates cantered in 2s, 3s and 4s on the Up-the-Middle
gallop.
Only exception is our Durban Thunder 3 year old filly, who'll be off to
get broken in at the weekend, exchanging with 'Hope' (Shantou filly)
who'll be in the yard for a couple of weeks to get a taste of morning
exercise, and life at Dodlands in general.
Six String!! Big Bad Dream, Baby Ticker, Lucarno Dancer, Keyboard Gangster, Paper Roses, See My Baby Jive
The next day (Wednesday), the work-outs were repeated for most. The exception this time was that Keyboard Gangster and Big Bad Dream did a slightly faster piece of work second time up.
All the string are in good heart at present (touch wood, cross fingers,
don't walk under any ladders etc.).
Sometimes too much thinking can drive
you insane.
I mean, about 10 days ago while casting an eye over at the condition
carried by the 3 or 4 horses who arrived back in from summer grass in early August,
thoughts of 'have we not done enough work with them' crossed our minds.
But this week, observing the same horses during their initial work days,
we couldn't be happier. They've certainly tightened up!.
Still about 3 weeks or so before we ponder over
The Racing Calendar and surely by then some persistent rain will have
fallen in the north.
First sight this season of 'Adam' (leading the canter) followed by The Boo Box, Side of the Road and Eternally Yours
