15th March news

We're racing at Newcastle tomorrow (Saturday)

Two runners at Newcastle tomorrow, where the going is currently soft but likely to be testing with lots of rain forecast in the morning hours pre-racing.

This should suit Paper Promise in the opening mares' novices' hurdle at 2.00 pm. This'll be her third run over hurdles and she ran well for a long way last time finishing 6th behind Galvin and Elvis Mail at Ayr. She's been schooling well and has been working much better in recent weeks at home.

She faces 7 opponents, mainly horses who are hurdling newcomers or slowly maturing types. The exception is Tom George's Darling Du Large who already has a rating of OR114. She's shown progressive form in her two hurdle runs so far, and has run well on soft ground when runner up on her debut in a bumper last season.

At 3.10pm, Dali Mail makes his handicap debut in the 2m hurdle. He's another of our horses who has been off the course for 2 months through no fault of his own. This'll be a fair test for the gelding, and I guess we'll know more about where we stand post race.

With Callum still on the sidelines, Craig Nichol will take both rides.
Good luck to owners Ron & Eileen Smith, Ian & Wee Davie and John & Nicola Mackin.

Couple of placed efforts at Hexham yesterday

Our horses continue to run well, but just not hitting that winning post in front.

Paper Roses was a fast finishing second over 2 miles having become outpaced after two out at the bottom of the hill leaving the back straight. She returned with a small cut on her leg which may explain losing her place after racing prominently up to that point.
She did rally approaching the last and finished strongly although the winner was home and hosed by then.

Big Bad Dream was a well beaten third in his novice hurdle. We know he's a stuffy horse at home but does thrive for racing. The numerous delays experienced since the turn of the year have restricted the gelding's opportunities but we'd look to run him again fairly quickly, given appropriate underfoot conditions.
