Nice introduction for Bushmill Boy, Dali Mail runner up
Bushmill Boy has been
coming along nicely since his introduction to the stable in September
and we had hopes that he may be able to be in contention at the finish
of his bumper at Ayr yesterday. As it transpired, this was a slowly run
affair and to avoid asking too much too soon from the Malinas gelding,
he was settled in rear.
Rounding the home turn, a wall of horses quickened and set off for home
and Bushmill Boy was caught slightly as he was a bit green and took his
time to up his own pace. Without ever threatening, he did stay on nicely
into 7th beaten just over 5 lengths.
He'll progress from this introduction and we'll look for a similar race in a few weeks time.
And so to Dali Mail......heartbreaking
time as over the last he quickened like a winner but hung left forcing
Callum to stop riding for a few strides to straighten him up. And the
chance had soon gone, with Gordon Elliott's Whoshotthesheriff finishing
strongly to win going away by a couple of lengths.
But this was a very encouraging run by the grey gelding as both the
winner and 3rd placed Sebastopol highly thought of by their respective
yards, and each were receiving 6lbs from Dali Mail.
Our gelding will be checked out to see if there is any physical problem, but it may have been a mixture of the ground (officially 'soft' but riding 'dead') and inexperience.
