Trio of horses run at Ayr tomorrow
Stable appearances on the racecourse have been few and far between over the last few weeks, but we go off triple-handed tomorrow to the West coast of Scotland. Persistent rain has ensured the ground at Ayr tomorrow will ride soft, which is a welcome relief!
The 2m novices' hurdle at 2.00pm sees
Paper Promise make just her
second run over hurdles. She seems in better form at home compared to
her hurdling debut at Carlisle in early December, but this is a hot
race. Irish master, Gordon Elliott, fields two in the race headed by
Galvin who is a very short odds-on favourite. All four victories have
come on a sound surface so if soft ground is that chink in his armour,
there are a couple of likely sorts in Elvis Mail (Kinneston Nick) and
Carry On Arcadio (Nicky R) who may be eyeing up this opportunity.
Gordon's second string Braid Blue didn't appear to act on soft on
hurdling debut after a couple of good ground bumper wins.
The rest of the field (including our mare) will probably be fighting it out for the minor places, but we'd be hoping that Paper Promise can show that she's back in the form which saw her win a couple of bumpers last season, and use the race as a springboard for the next few months.
Paper Promise
Paper Roses has run some fine races in her career but remains a maiden
after 13 attempts.
She contests the 2m 3½f mares' handicap hurdle at 3.05 and holds every
chance of putting in a bold show.
Nicky Richards runs the probable favourite in Peter's Cousin, a
progressive winning novice who does possess a bit of temperament though.
She seemed in a very bad mood last week at Newcastle both in the paddock
and on the way to the start, and declined to take any part in the race.
But Nicky and his team will no doubt have been coaxing this talented
mare to produce better tomorrow - if so, she can go close.
Gordon Elliott's Pat's Oscar takes a drop in class running here off top
weight, handles soft ground well but may be at her best over a shorter
trip. A slowly run race would suit, mind you.
Ian Duncan's novice Jessiemac will have a chance off a light weight, but
this is harder than the event she undertook last time when finishing a
close third at this course.
So, onto the bumper at 4.40 where we run debutant
Onecallaway. She's a lovely
filly and is the type to progress with racing over the next couple of
seasons.
A nice introduction would be ideal here.
Of course, Elliott with his jockey Davy Russell will again be prominent,
this time
with Arion Sky who followed up a fine debut third here in November with
a below par run at Limerick next time. She'll go close if re-producing
that debut form.
There's more promise rather than
stand-out form from the remainder. The Crawford
Bros. are dangerous when booking top jockeys and Brian Hughes is in the
saddle for Mandy's Quine but there's not much bumper form from the
family to go on. The reverse can be said about Stuart Edmunds' mare
Lilly's Arc, a sister to a couple of NH Flat winners.
Ease in the ground might see Scobie's Animore improve on her form so
far, she is also a sister to a couple of bumper winners.
Kelly Morgan has improved a couple of acquisitions from the Point field
in recent seasons in the bumper sphere, so Diese Bless could be another
one of those - look out for a market move, as they say.
Onecallaway on the right with Side of the Road
So, there you go.
Three runners, a bit of a chance with Paper Roses but we'd be hoping
that all three run nice races without perhaps the expectation of
contesting finishes.
Callum is in the saddle tomorrow, and best of luck to our owners The
Brave Lads, and Eileen Smith & friends.
Incidentally, it's good to hear that Eileen is on the mend recovering from a nasty leg injury. We do miss you down at the yard and on the gallops at weekends, so hope you can still enjoy seeing the 'Paper Sisters' from the comfort of your couch!
