23rd February news

Stainsby Girl returns to Carlisle tomorrow (Sunday)

We ran The Boo Box at Carlisle last Monday but he didn't run anywhere near expectations and trailed in a well beaten horse. Prior to that, Onecallaway made her debut in a bumper at Ayr on 6th February but she was also well beaten.
Naturally enough, we're a little concerned with the stable form in the last couple of weeks as we had such a good November and December.

Still, tomorrow's runner Stainsby Girl has been working fine at home, but you always have that niggling doubt each time you venture to the racecourse in such times.

There are 11 runners in the concluding race at Carlisle tomorrow - a Mares Only NH Flat race over 2m 1f.

There are several in the race who have valuable experience under Rules, but in normal circumstances these would have to show improvement to be involved in the finish.
However, there are some with either Irish or UK winning/placed Point-to-Point form.

Keith Dalgleish saddles Mrs Davies whose 2nd in an Irish Point made her an attractive £30k sales purchase a few days later. With Brian Hughes in the saddle, this represents a strong combination but she may need to improve upon this form to win here.
James Ewart runs Tortuga Bay who won an English Point (mares' maiden) in April last year, and this also led to a purchase shortly afterwards for £60k. By Sulamani, Tortuga Bay is a half sister to 6 winners including the useful black-type mare Ron's Dream. An eye-catching pedigree - put her in the 'dangerous' category.

Also 'dangerous' is the owner/trainer/jockey combination of Nick, Dan, Harry Skelton with the unraced Prussia With Love. Nothing close up in the pedigree apart from the fairly useful hurdler/chaser Kings Lodge (a half brother to the dam), but there are many useful jumpers in the family.

Stainsby Girl won over course and distance on her debut here in mid December by 17 lengths. It is quite hard to evaluate the form as that was a 4 horse race and none have run since. She carries a 7lb penalty for that success which without doubt will be a factor tomorrow.
Anyway, we think a lot of the Shirocco 5yr old and we hope she can give a bold show.

Callum takes the ride and good luck to owners Helen Simpson and Al Duncan - trust you enjoy the day win, lose or draw!
