Fine second place for Wor Lass yesterday

Dropping down in grade to a Class 5 for the first time this season, Wor Lass ran a fine race but couldn't quite peg back the winner Bonnie Arlene over 1m 4f at Musselburgh yesterday. Probably just a shade short of her optimum trip, Wor Lass nevertheless ran a competitive race, staying on in the final two furlongs but going down by ¾ of a length in the end.

In what turned out to be a glorious summer's day (!), it was an enjoyable afternoon all round and great to sea the Dodds family out in force with Les being joined by his wife, daughter Michelle and partner Stewart. Nice, relaxed atmosphere at Musselburgh and first class organisation as always if you didn't mind mind some bizarre comments throughout the day from the resident M.C.

This Racing Life : RUK's view of Scottish Borders racing fraternity

Fine viewing, catch the 30 minute programme while you can as this week's This Racing Life on Racing UK (from 30th August) is focused on racing aspects of the Scottish Borders with Hawick quite to the fore.

Brother Ali (that's Hawick trainer Alistair Whillans) featured at the start of the programme, with Gordon Brown visiting his Newmill's yard, gallops, and talking to Ali and son Ewan too.
Next up was a piece on Goffs UK (formerly Doncaster Bloodstock agency), the sales company whose UK office is based in Hawick, and director Jeremy Mactaggart was highlighted as also a shrewd pinhooker of flat-bred foals.
To round off, Gordy paid a visit to Hawick born Scobie Jardine who's now ensconced at Lenny's old yard at Carrutherstown overlooking the Solway Firth. Facilities much as they were in Lenny's days with even gallops assistant, ol' Jonty Galbraith in situ.
