22nd March news

Yesterday at Haydock

Not quite the run we’d hoped for.

Keyboard Gangster finished 3rd in an eventful 4 runner race at Haydock yesterday. Taking a very keen hold from the off, Keyboard Gangster jumped the first 3 flights slickly, and was leading passing the post first time round. However, sighting the stables, he cocked his jaw and swerved violently right and almost unseated Callum in colliding with the outside rails. This did not favours to the odds on favourite who followed our fellow off to the right instead of negotiating the left hand bend, unseating Danny Cook in the process. Callum straightened out Keyboard Gangster, now fully 50 lengths behind the remaining two runners and again our gelding ran very freely and joined the leading pair by the end of the back straight. Although upsides 2 out, Keyboard Gangster’s exertions began to tell, and Callum settled for third place after the last.

Not devoid of ability by any means, he shows no wayward signs at home but we’ll have a good think about how best to nurture his intrinsic ability.

Sedgefield tomorrow

Paper Roses has had a couple of months off since her slightly below par run at Catterick at New Year, and runs in the mares novice at Sedgefield tomorrow over an extended 2 miles.

There are several horses in the race that we’ve come up against this season.
Raised On Grazeon has showed impressive progressive form this season winning a couple of races (including that Catterick New Year event) but has to give 14lb to the field minus jockeys’ allowances. Sue’s Trooblue is another well made mare who is improving and McCain’s Birch Vale has made a fine start to her career this season and is progressive.

But Paper Roses has been working well at home, and should make full use of her experience and weight allowance to put in a performance to have every chance of success.
