Paper Promise is victorious at Musselburgh today
Thrilling!!
The winning connections : Ron, Eileen, Ian, 'Brooke', Murray, wee Davie and Callum
Paper Promise runs for a
partnership formed by Eileen Smith which includes husband Ron, Ian
Aitken and wee Davie Brown. All were present today at Musselburgh to see
their mare spread-eagle the field in the bumper, winning by 7l and 6l in
a ready manner.
Making full use of her experience (she was 2nd on her only previous
race) Callum kept the mare close up to the pace, and she travelled very
smoothly. Once into the straight with over 3f to race, Paper Promise
eased into a narrow lead and when Callum shook her up, the response was
immediate and she was clear with 2f to run. She kept on nicely to with
very comfortably.
Afterwards, Callum commented that the race was run with plenty of
inexperienced horses and he was doubtful of the face value of the form
but nonetheless Paper Promise went about her work in a professional
manner.
Sometimes you've got to keep pre-race enthusiasm in check, as was the case last night when the race preview was published but we hope some of our regulars could pick up the stable confidence in the news update!
Despite what the Racing Post reported in the post race analysis (!), the bullet has already been bitten in terms of the commencement of schooling over small jumps, so her next appearance on the course may well be over hurdles. Can hardly wait........
