30th December news

Shades of Midnight runs at Haydock today

A remarkable rise in temperatures will certainly make the journey to and from Haydock more relaxing, with the thermometer forecast to show a balmy 10°C.
The going at Haydock will be testing, bottomless in places, but this may well suit our novice chaser Shades of Midnight on his second outing over fences in the extended 2m 2f event which is the 2nd race on the card. He stays 3 miles.

It's been a bit stop-start for Shady these last few weeks, with the weather impacting several intended outings. Today, Potassium Partnership's gelding faces just 2 rivals but each has a touch of class about them.
Rose's Jonniesofa may just be having his second outing over fences under rules (having won on chase debut in October) but was a prolific performer in Irish Points and acts on heavy. The justifiable favourite, as he was a fine staying novice hurdler before picking up an injury leading to a year off.
The Dapper Don runs his mare Lastbutnotleast - a listed hurdle winner - and she is another with winning Point form. She did break a blood vessel last time at Carlisle at the start of the month, but you'd assume that's been treated at home since and reappears fairly quickly.

As on debut, Henry Brooke will be in the saddle for Shades of Midnight.

A fascinating contest with just 3 runners. Good luck to the Potassium Partnership, safe journey and enjoy the day!
