Paper Promise second on debut at Kelso
We were all thrilled to bits!
Paper Promise was
settled by Callum in rear where, to be honest, she ran a fair bit green
initially but after some gentle coaxing from The Jockey, the mare picked
up the bit and travelled strongly. Passing the winning post for the
first time, Paper Promise was travelling well towards the rear upsides
the smooth travelling Heartasia who was the most experienced horse in
the race having run 3 times previously, winning once.
Given some daylight at the end of the back straight, Paper Promise made
good headway to join the leaders and into the straight was still on the
bit, but ominously so was Heartasia who took up the lead. Our mare
stayed on well in the final two furlongs but couldn't match the basic
flat speed of the winner - Heartasia, by Danehill dancer out of a Mr.
Greely mare - but still finished 5 lengths clear of the third horse.
It was only last August when The Trainer bought this sister to Paper Roses at the Tatts (Ire) NH Sale as an unbroken 4 year old, and the mare has fairly prospered at Dodlands Steading in the prevailing months. It was a performance full of promise for next season - be that in bumpers or over hurdles, and we'll rough off Paper Promise now and look to bring her back in around August.
Just a word for breeder Niall Delany for as well as our two mares (Paper Roses and Paper Promise), he also sold Way Out West to the Eire based Crawford Bros. Way Out West - a half brother to our pair - won a Sedgefield bumper a couple of weeks ago. Now, about that Westerner 3 yr old filly you have, Niall.....
