Tomahawk Wood prevails at Ayr yesterday

First up yesterday at Ayr, was Hartforth in the staying handicap hurdle. He ran well, although not able to repeat his course and distance win of a month ago. He was carrying a welter burden of 11st 12lb (minus Callum's 3lb) and that seemed to have an effect as he just couldn't keep pace with the leaders when challenged for the lead 3 out. Still, he finished in 6th place, and showed his well being, so another staying event in a few weeks time will be on the cards, maybe carrying a little less weight.

Saving the best for last, Tomahawk Wood delighted his owners The Enduria Partnership by staying on strongly to win by 3 lengths from the well supported odds on favourite Fearless Tunes in the finale. Our gelding took it up travelling well on the bottom turn into the home straight, with only the eventual second for company but met 3 out all wrong. Callum quickly gathered him together and drove him along to maintain a 2-3 length advantage before pressing home all the way to the line from the last.
There was 25 lengths back to the third horse, so there was nothing to crib about the form of the race. Although the was the lowest grade (0-100), and race distances can be exaggerated in testing conditions, the first two home can be expected to rise in the handicap, and both shape as if they wouldn't be inconvenienced by a step up in grade.......given similar conditions of course.

The lads from the Enduria Partnership are spread far and wide. Davie & Ian were trackside, Mark watched a live stream of the race in Gran Canaria whilst Fozzo was assisting Hawick Council to deliver their new housing programme. Today, Tomahawk Wood is enjoying a spell out of his box in the paddock, nursing a small graze on his foreleg where he had a disagreement with the third last at Ayr. Not sure who came off worse, mind you.

Marvellous!
