Snapping Turtle tomorrow at Kelso
He could never get to grips with the pace of the race on the second circuit at Catterick last time, having dawdled to halfway, but if Snapping Turtle is able to dictate matters from the front, he could well go close tomorrow.
His target is the 3m 2f handicap hurdle at our local course where he
may find that Bescot Springs and Notonebuttwo are the most likely of his
opponents to contest the early lead. If Lucinda's Bescot Springs was able to bounce
back to his winning form after two poor efforts since, he would be
a major player.
Brae On (trained by neighbour George) has also shown ability to win a handicap such as this, and his
last 3 poor efforts have come over fences. He can go well when fresh
(last run May '16), and along with Brother Ali's Brackenmoss Rory may
give our gelding most to do. Incidentally, Brackenmoss Rory should
benefit for the step up to 3m plus as his full brother (Cavers Glen)
proved a fair chaser at that distance.
The remainder in the main have proved disappointing of late, and point winner King's Eclipse is making his handicap debut after 3 'no shows' in novice hurdles.
Parts of the Kelso track are frozen at present. There is an increase in temperatures forecast but this may just come too late to save the meeting in the Sunday 8am planned inspection.
