Hurdling debut for Paper Roses at Kelso tomorrow
Paper Roses showed promising form in 3 bumper runs over the last 13 months, and was probably a little unlucky not to get off the mark in that sphere. She makes her hurdling debut across the Borders' countryside at Kelso tomorrow where she will face six rivals.
There are another 3 hurdling debutants.
McCain's Patsy Milan showed only modest form in Irish Points, and was
down the field in a listed bumper at Punchestown in April.
Brian Hughes has been booked to ride Your Turn who makes the long trip
up from Worcester and has shown a similar level of form to Patsy Milan
in a couple of Irish Points but has not run for 18 months. She is hooded
on debut.
Queen of Avalon has yet to beat a rival in 2 bumper appearances this
season.
Also, with seemingly much to prove (she has only beaten 2 opponents in 6 tries) is Beyondtheflame whose trainer Jonathon Haynes has done well with a couple of other daughters of And Beyond - Mrs Grass & Beyondtemptation - but both needed plenty of time and experience before achieving success.
Which leaves a couple of runners with winning form.
Moon Over Rio won a couple of flat races at a modest level, and has been
placed a couple of times in handicap hurdles (OR89).
Nick Alexander's French import Jolie Crickette has the best form on
view, having won 3 chases and been placed in hurdles races across the
channel. With earnings of over £40,000, this filly will surely strip
fitter following her UK debut at Haydock in November. She sets the
standard (OR105).
Our filly has schooled well, but first time hurdling always raises question marks. If she takes to hurdles, Paper Roses should go close.
