Side of the Road's hurdling debut at Perth
All three of our horses which ran at Perth last week are sound and well, and enjoying a leisurely couple of days around the yard.
The mares' novices hurdle in which
Side of the Road
competed was run at a breakneck gallop, with the winner (and favourite)
from Tom George's yard (Miss Night Owl) blazing off in front. There was
no real way of competing with that pace first time out over hurdles with
horse having her 3rd run in public, so Callum settled our mare off the
pace and got her jumping well.
Side of the Road was a bit careful over the last couple of flights, but
pleased The Jockey overall. She didn't make any real headway from the
rear and finished a well beaten 7th (of 10) but kept on right to the
line.
Callum said afterwards that the mare changed her legs a few times during
the race and would appreciate a bit of give in the ground.
