Ayr yesterday review
Well, we learned a couple of things from the run of Keyboard Gangster at Ayr yesterday.....
But first, the race in which the favourite and winner was a newcomer
from the powerful yard of Nicky Henderson. Keyboard Gangster raced a bit
keenly for the first few furlongs but Callum settled the gelding towards
the rear. Making smooth progress 4 furlongs out, and into the straight
he was chasing the 3 leaders in fourth about 2 furlongs from home,
staying on strongly, when disaster struck for his
supporters.
Much like on his debut run at Perth last June, Keyboard Gangster veered
to his left almost off the course, and lost about 10 lengths before
Callum got him back on track to finish 6th. First thoughts are
that something in his bodyworks went wrong and he got a fright, but once
straightened out, the gelding did stay on again towards the finish.
He wasn't beaten that far (14 lengths) and would almost certainly have been placed.
We've not given up on this fellow by any means, and a vet examination, appropriate treatment and summer at grass may well do the trick.
