Yesterday's runners at Kelso
We're quite pleased really.....
Leith Walk ran and jumped well for a long way in the 2m handicap hurdle.
We know she is better over further, so Callum set off in front with an
eye on dictating the pace. She was still at the head of affairs 2 out,
but then lack of full fitness took its toll and she weakened approaching
the last, finishing sixth.
This run will have brought the mare on a fair bit, so we can look at a
re-appearance in about 4-5 weeks
Leith Walk (Callum, on the right) takes an early flight well
Our stable conditional jockey Ryan Nichol has had a few point-to-point
rides, as well as 3 rides as an amateur under rules, and made his debut
as a 'conditional' yesterday. He can be proud of his effort on King
Kalium as he rode the gelding with the aplomb of a seasoned
professional.
'King' jumped well, and travelled smoothly into contention 3 out before,
much like Leith Walk, a slight lack of full fitness told and he weakened
approaching the last, just pipped for a place in fifth. We'll talk it over with the Potassium members, but
King Kalium will probably gain more experience over hurdles before
setting his sights on chasing.
A pleasing run all the same.
