Harry Flashman retires, and is looking for a good home

Yes, following his last race (and victory) at Hexham in May, Harry Flashman has been retired from Racing under Rules. His owners (Allan Gilchrist, Malcolm Kent & Peter Wylie) have certainly have had a marvellous racing experience with the now 11yr old gelding, who has won 7 times for them.

'Harry' would make a fine riding horse for someone, and is available to a good home at a modest cost.

Harry Flashman is currently at home with his breeder Allan Gilchrist (near Hawick).
Allan can be contacted on 077 307 65827.

Ryan to turn 'conditional'

On a slightly more up-beat note, our young amateur jockey Ryan Nichol is planning to take out his 'conditional jockey' licence in the autumn.

Ryan recently attended the Northern Racing College for a week and underwent assessment of his riding ability, and knowledge of racing matters in general.

He passed, and received a glowing report from the College who remarked on his 'nice riding style, good hands and very good jumping skills'.

Indeed!!!

1-2 for Dodlands at Hamilton Park???

Well, in a way....

Of course, we're always quick to take credit when our carefully nurtured horses progress in their racing career. But what about the jockeys who have passed though Dodlands Steading, having arrived as raw teenagers?

The classy Wilson Renwick is an obvious example, but take a close look at the photo which adorns the 'Welcome to...' page of this site.

Ryan (see above) can be spotted, along with his brother Craig (now at Lucinda's), both of whom will take out a Conditional Jockey licence at the end of the summer. Callum is attached to Donald McCain's yard as a conditional jockey as well.
The other 2 pictured riding out on our gallops from a couple of years ago are Garry Whillans and Jason Hart who are now regularly booting home winners on the flat.

And it was the 4.00 at Hamilton on July 3rd that caught our eye. Alsahil (trained by Micky Hammond, ridden by Garry) won beating Tenhoo (trained by Eric Alston, ridden by Jason) into second.
For good measure, young Jason had just won the previous race.

Well done lads, but I'm afraid on this occasion we really must take all the credit............
