The family

Princess Apollo is the first foal of the 6 time winner Speedy Senorita, who raced 49 times at all distances ranging from 5 to 5½  furlongs. She raced mainly in the North, being trained first by Karl Burke, then John Quinn and finally for Jimmy Moffat.

She also has a filly by Doncaster Rover (born 2015), named Donny Belle in training with David Brown. Donny Belle has been placed 4 times from 8 starts, and races over a similar range of distances as her dam.

Speedy Senorita is the only progeny of Senora Wood to win. Senora Wood herself was a maiden but her siblings were very speedy horses. She is a half sister to half a dozen winners, the best being listed winner Smittenby.

About the sire

Mullionmileanhour (bay horse, born 2006) was trained by John Best. A winner on debut as a 2yr old, he was precocious and fast enough to run next time at Royal Ascot finishing 3rd to his stable companion Flashmans Paper (a 100-1 shot!) in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes.
Mullionmileanhour missed the whole of the remainder of the season, and all of his next but did re-appear on the racecourse as a 4yr old. He finished 3rd in his first race, again a listed event, before running the race of his life when 2nd, beaten a short head, in another listed race over Newmarket's 6f to Equiano (now a UK based renowned sire of sprinters).
Retired to stud in 2011 after that 4yr old campaign, as a sire, Mullionmileanhour hasn't reached the same heights as Equiano, but has sired over a dozen winner on the flat at trips up to 1 mile.
The best of his progeny are Roll on Rory, a multiple winner on the flat, and Mullionheir, another multiple winner of 6 races at up to 1 mile.
Mullionmileanhour's half brother Adaay, by Kodiac, is standing at Whitsbury Manor, having won a couple of Group 2s over 6 & 7 furlongs.

In touch 4f, outpaced final 2f
Princess Apollo was making her handicap debut in this all-weather 6f sprint. This run should bring her on after a 5 month absence from the track.

line

18 June 18 Carlisle : 6f  Fillies' Novice Stakes (Class 5) good to firm 13 ran (Jason Hart) - 7th  (beaten 14l)                                Video
Smartly away, good speed 4f, weakened over 1f out
Princess Apollo put up her best performance so far, showing some nice speed and racing prominently until tiring a wee bit in the closing stages. As her dam's race profile would suggest (see above), the filly could be best suited at 5f. Should have done enough for a handicap mark.

line

6 June 18 Hamilton : 6f  Novice Stakes (Class 5) good  10 ran (Rowan Scott (3)) - 10th
Prominent, ridden and lost place over 2f out, soon beaten
Princess Apollo has shown some improvement on her second run. We'll hope to attain a handicap mark in the next couple of runs.

line

22 May 18 Ayr : 6f  Maiden Fillies Stakes (Class 5) good to firm 6 ran (Jason Hart) - 6th
Reluctant to enter stalls, took keen hold, held up, ridden and outpaced over 2f out, soon weakened
Racecourse debut for this filly - at 4yrs of age - and she was quite green but will benefit from the experience. For sure, she'll be taken through the starting stalls a few times ahead of her next run, but we'd expect her to improve a wee bit over the course of her first few runs .
