The family
Allgrownup raced for 3 seasons over in Ireland under the care of Edward O'Grady and she showed herself as a consistent, fair hurdler. She won a hurdle, and was placed numerous times including in a novice chase.
She is the only winner of her dam, Penny Pincher, unraced but a
daughter of influential NH sire Roselier.
Further back in the family are a couple of multiple National Hunt
winners in Ceol-na-Mara and Park Gate.
Allgrownup is the dam of 3 foals thus far, the year older Strictly Becks being her only runner to date, and she has run in a bumper and over hurdles. In 2016, Allgrownup produced a filly by Ask.
About the sire
A son of the great sire Sadler's Wells, Ask (bay horse, born 2003)
was unraced as a 2yr old, but proved himself to be a tough top class
middle distance/stayer racing from 3-7
when trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Over 5 seasons, he won 7
races, with 6 of these in Pattern Events.
In all, he won at distances ranging from 10f to 2 miles winning a
couple of Group 1s including the Coronation Cup at Epsom, in a
thrilling 3-way photo finish by a couple of noses.
A profile crying out 'stayer' leads to one direction at stud and Ask
has only ever been
marketed as a National Hunt sire. He has been standing at Coolmore's
Beeches Stud since 2011 (stud fee €3,000) and he has been fairly
popular with breeders with crops numbering over 100, and nearer 200 in
recent years.
With his first foals now 5yr olds in 2017, he has had a couple of flat
winners already, although has made a fairly quiet start over jumps -
winning hurdler/chaser Ask Nile his best to date of about a dozen
individual winners.
Our now annual foray across the Irish Sea in 2015, saw us come home with a handful of National Hunt stores and this gelding from the first crop of Ask was one of the five. Boy In The Bubble is an athletic sort, not overbig who we expected to be fairly quick in coming to hand (in NH Store terms that is).
Like his fellow sales purchases, and future stable mates, 'Sid' was
sent down the road to Tim Reed to complete his education. In the
stable in the autumn of 2015, sure enough 'Sid' was the sharpest of
his fellow newcomers and was soon matching pace with the rest of the
string on the morning gallops.
Given a break over the winter months, 'Sid' came back into training
in the Spring of 2016 and he benefitted physically from his break
but had lost none of that sparkle as he again pleased the team
members.
He's definitely a bit of a 'character'. See if you can guess where he got his stable moniker from, and a clue - it wasn't from the grizzled, Carry On comedian Sid James!
Season 2016-17? Boy In The Bubble came back to Dodlands after a good summer at grass, and on conformation was expected to be the first of our band of unraced youngsters to make a bumper debut last season. Not how things panned out though, and a few niggles here and there led us to rough him off quite early last season.
Still, he has summered well, and has returned to our yard in early August '17. The team will be working with this gelding on the morning gallops and we'd hope he is forward enough to make a racecourse appearance before the turn of the year.
