The family
This gelding is the first foal of Polyanthus Jones, who was
trained in England by Henry Daly. She showed a fair level of
form in just 6 outings, finishing runner-up in a bumper before
being placed in a hurdle race.
Acquired by breeder Patrick Barry for €12,000 in November
2006, Polyanthus Jones was sent to Indian Danehill in the spring
of the following year. Indian Danehill was standing at Glenview
Stud in Ireland at that time.
The second dam, Cindie Girl won on the flat and over hurdles (4 times) and gained her black type by
finishing 3rd in Newbury's Challow Hurdle, She, herself, has bred 4 winners, the best of which has been prolific NH winner Dorans Gold,
as well as bumper winner and listed placed Mini Mandy.
About the sire
Indian Danehill (bay horse, 1996) was a very consistent, top
class horse trained by Andre Fabre in France.
He raced between 8 - 10.5 furlongs, and showed his best form on soft and heavy ground, as was the
going when Indian Danehill won the Group 1 Prix Ganay in 2000.
He was retired to stud in 2001, and for the following 5 seasons
stood at the Irish National Stud.
As a sire, he wasn't an immediate success on the flat, his progeny generally improving
with age. He does though have a couple of group winning sons in
Australia - Rodgers Anchor & Zip Baby Zip.
Indian Danehill moved over to England to stand at Yorton Farm for a
couple of seasons as a jump sire, and in 2012 relocated to France.
The massive catalogue of over 800 lots made a fair thump through the letter box in August 2011.
But lot 486, of Tattersalls Ireland August NH Stores
sale, a brown gelding by Indian Danehill, took out eye and was placed on the
short-list. The page contained a fair amount of black type, so maybe
the horse would be out of the price range.
And indeed, this good looking son of Indian Danehill did find his
way back to Dodlands Steading after the sale.
This gelding was given a couple of weeks to settle in at Dodlands following his journey
over the Irish Sea. Together with fellow Tattersalls Ireland acquisition (a Classic Cliché
gelding), the education process began.
Allegheny Valley has been in training since the early part of 2012,
and has grown a fair bit, so we've taken our time with him and on
looks he has developed into a striking individual, well-made with
bags of scope. Probably the best looking horse in the yard.
However, he has been quite a backward sort on the gallops. We took
him up to Musselburgh in February 2013 for on eof the post-race
bumpers that the executive allow after the last meeting of the NH
season. He was in 'division II' of that race, quite a hot event as
subsequent race form turned out. Our gelding didn't fare too badly,
and stuck on to his task in the home straight, without ever
troubling the leaders.
We remain convinced that there is inherent ability, and he has shown
more in his work this year. He shapes a stayer, and can only improve
with racing experience but we'll give him a couple of outings in
bumpers before the turn of the year.
