The family
The Silver Patriarch mare Celine Message was unraced, and to date
her only 2 progeny are this Overbury gelding and a year older filly
by Multiplex (as yet unraced).
She is the daughter of lightly raced Queens Connection who is the
dam of 3 individual winners, namely 11 times winner on the flat
Queens Consul and winning hurdlers Bypharbeanri and Lazuli Moon (GB).
Celine Message is a half sister to the unraced Grey Mo who is a successful broodmare being the dam of National Hunt winners Wings of Smoke (IRE) (6 wins, Grade 2 placed chaser), Kings Grey (6 wins) and Boss In Boots (3 wins).
Further back, the family boasts top class Flat horses such as Cezanne, Colorspin, Kayf Tara and Opera House.
About the sire
Overbury (brown horse, born 1991), owned by Sheik Mohammed, was
trained by David Loder as a 2 year old, showing good form to win a
couple of small races, finishing his juvenile career with a 3rd
place in the Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2). He progressed further in
his next season being Group 1 placed twice, and winning a Grade 2
event over 9 furlongs at Arlington. After just one outing as a 4
year old, Overbury was trained as a 5 year old by bin Suroor to win
a 13f Listed event at Sha Tin.
Apart from one season in Eire, Overbury has stood in England under
the care of the Richard Kent
who bought him from Godolphin as a five-year-old. He sired many fine
National Hunt horses such as Bury Parade (more about him below),
Grade 3 winning chaser Simon, Pertemps Final winning hurdler
Ballyfitz and the Mullins trained dual purpose high class performer
Clondaw Warrior.
He was a very genuine horse
and he shares a stat with Kayf Tara as being the only British-based sires to have a Cheltenham Festival bumper
winner (Missed That & Ballyandy respectively).
Local Jedburgh owner Robert Bewley is a well known figure in the Scottish Borders having trained successfully for many years under National Hunt Rules. He is the father of conditional rider Callum Bewley who is well used by Northern trainers and has over 50 winners to his credit.
In recent years, Rob's best horse - whom he also trained - has been another son of Overbury called Bury Parade. Rob picked up that gelding as a yearling, trained him to win a bumper, two hurdles and a chase before selling him on for £100k making a tidy profit in the process. The mention of Bury Parade will always stick in our throats as we were the underbidder for the horse as a foal - a full year before Rob stepped in.........
Anyway, moving on swiftly, we are delighted to train this son of
Overbury for Rob who sent the gelding along to the yard in mid
October '17. Rob had clearly done a reasonable amount of
pre-training with 'Dessie' as within days he was working upsides his
new stable companions in a couple of spins on the Up-the-Middle
gallop each morning. He has settled in very well, and is the second
grey gelding at Dodlands this year.
And that's not all that he's got in common with
Dali Mail - each horse devours their
feed and are banging their door to attract Callum's attention each
morning for 'extras'.
'Dessie' is a strong, sturdy gelding standing at over 16hh. Given
his level of training to date, it may not be too long before he
makes an appearance on the racecourse in a bumper.
A smashing addition to the yard.
