8th March news

Couple of runners across the country at Ayr

Ayr 8th March : 3.00 pm 2m 4½f 0-100 Handicap Hurdle (Class 5)

Eden Mill (Craig Nichol) would appear to have something to find strictly on the form book with two or three of today's opponents but will be suited by this trip and today's soft going.

Follow Charlie drops back down in grade this time (he had previously won in this type of race at the turn of the year), and his young jockey takes off an eye catching 10lb.
Second name check in two days for Tim Vaughn who saddles Weaver's Answer (70's hit by Family, anyone?). He has won over 2 miles and 3 miles this season already and now tries something in between. An improving sort who looks sure to go close.
Kingston Rock ran into Eire Street last time (haven't we all) but he might just be better suited to distances around 2 miles.

We hope the lads of TD9 Racing enjoy the racing after a splendid lunch!

There are some who believe Cowboy Cooper would be more suited by less testing conditions (official advance going is soft), but Bill Aitchison's gelding lines up for his 3rd outing over fences here with Henry Brooke riding. As with Eden Mill above, you can probably put a line through his effort last time and better judged on his chase debut.  We're hoping for a better showing today.

Jimmy Fyffe's £40,000 purchase Whosmydaddy was very impressive when winning on chase debut at Musselburgh last time and even with an 8lb rise looks hard to beat.
And just for good measure, Thomson also saddles Baron Briggs who is not without a shout. Kinneston Nick is also double handed and Wavelength could well be the stable's selected.

A tough race, and best of luck to Henry & Bill.

And onto Newcastle in the evening

Newcastle 8th March : 8.00 pm 7f  0-65  handicap (Class 6)

Probably our best chance of success on the day lies with the ever consistent, in-form Pallas Lord.

Four wins in his last 5 runs have been duly reflected in his handicap mark - the first of those victories came off OR52 - and he is now rated OR61. He's been drawn in stall 2 (away from the favoured stands side rail), so Jason Hart may not find it easy to have our gelding settled in front.
Saisons D'Or is a fair handicapper who ran well after an absence of 4 months over this c&d last month when runner up but clear of the remainder. He's drawn towards that stands' side and likes to front run. A big danger.

Anyway, good luck to the Hawick lads!

Pallas Lord
