An Al Duncan musing

17th December : Well done Russell Lindsay

Congratulations to Russell Lindsay on riding a winner on his first ride under Rules.

Of course, until this season, Russell was a member of the Dodlands Steading team, as a work rider/stable lad.
In my frequent visits to the stable & gallops over the past few seasons, Russell struck me as quite a shy guy, although he has a ready smile. So, it was with much pleasure that I watched the Racing UK re-run of Catterick’s meeting on Tuesday and witnessed Russell’s fine, patient ride on Sambelucky for his current boss, Keith Reveley, producing the horse to lead close home.  Great stuff, Russell!

Reverting to type, Racing UK couldn’t let the moment of success from a young Northern amateur go by, without misnaming Russell in the post race analysis.
Step forward Angus McNae, for whose benefit ......

Russell Lindsay is a young amateur rider who won on his first ride in public under the Rules of Racing.

Robert Lindsay is an actor, most recently appearing as a deranged dentist in the BBC sitcom My Family.
He may well be known to older readers as the star of another BBC sitcom, the classic Citizen Smith.

It's really Russell

Robert Lindsay
It's really Robert

and, er.........Russell Lindsay

Note, It is my understanding that a box set containing all 4 series of Citizen Smith (writer John Sullivan’s forerunner to Only Fools & Horses) will be issued in 2011. It'll be on my shopping list.

Power to the People!!
